    Pass each banana leaf briefly over a low flame or a hot dry pan so it becomes flexible.

    Rub the tilapia with the salt and palm oil.

    Mix the onion, tomato, garlic, and red chili in a bowl.

    Set one fish on each banana leaf and pack the aromatic mixture around and inside it.

    Fold the leaves tightly around the fish to make sealed parcels.

    Arrange the parcels in a steamer or on a rack set over the water, cover, and steam until the fish flakes easily.
