Method
Follow each step in order. Ingredient names are highlighted as you go.
- 01
Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Carefully loosen the leaves from the green cabbage and blanch them until pliable. Let them cool, then trim the thick ribs so they roll easily.
- 02
Cook the white rice in the water until just partially tender, then drain and cool.
- 03
Heat the sunflower oil in a skillet over medium heat. Cook the onion and carrot until softened, then let them cool slightly.
- 04
Combine the ground beef, ground pork, cooked white rice, softened onion, carrot, garlic, salt, and black pepper in a bowl.
- 05
Whisk the tomato paste, water, salt, and black pepper together for the sauce.
- 06
Spoon filling onto each cabbage leaf, fold in the sides, and roll tightly. Arrange the rolls seam-side down in a deep baking dish or pot.
- 07
Pour over the sauce, cover, and bake at 180°C (350°F) until the cabbage is very tender and the filling reaches 71°C (160°F).
- 08
Spoon the sauce over the rolls and serve with sour cream and fresh dill.
