    Cover the split peas with water and leave for 4 hours, then drain well.

    Blend the drained split peas with the water to make a thick, mostly smooth batter.

    Mix the all-purpose flour, baking powder, turmeric powder, cumin seeds, and salt, then stir in the split-pea paste.

    Heat the vegetable oil to 175°C (350°F) in a deep pan.

    Drop evenly sized spoonfuls of batter into the oil and fry until puffed, golden, and cooked through. Drain briefly.
