Method

Place the mopane worms in a bowl, pour in the soaking water, and leave them until softened. Drain and rinse again.

Heat the vegetable oil in a pot over medium heat. Add the onion and cook until soft, then stir in the garlic.

Add the tomato and tomato paste and cook until thickened. Stir in the chili powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper.

Add the soaked mopane worms and pour in the water. Bring to a boil, then reduce to a gentle simmer at about 95°C (205°F).

Cook, stirring occasionally, until the mopane worms are tender and the sauce is thick. Serve hot.
