    Combine the white rice, coconut milk, water, and salt in a saucepan. Bring to a gentle simmer, cover, and cook for 8 minutes, until the liquid is mostly absorbed but the rice is still firm.

    Spread the white rice on a tray and let it cool for 10 minutes.

    Briefly pass the banana leaves over low heat until pliable. Divide the rice evenly among the pieces and fold each into a secure parcel.

    Bring the water in a steamer to a boil. Arrange the parcels above the water, cover, and steam for 25 to 30 minutes, until the white rice is tender.
