    Heat the vegetable oil in a pot over medium heat. Add the onion and cook until softened.

    Add the garlic, then stir in the tomato, cumin powder, salt, and black pepper. Cook until the tomatoes start to break down.

    Pour in the water and bring to a boil. Add the white beans, lower the heat, and simmer until the beans are nearly tender.

    Add the kale and continue cooking until the beans are soft and the greens are tender. The sauce should be lightly thickened but still spoonable.
