Batter

Mix the all-purpose flour, active dry yeast, and salt in a bowl. Gradually whisk in the lukewarm water until smooth and elastic.

Cover the batter and let it rest in a warm place for 45 to 60 minutes, until bubbly and expanded.

Heat the vegetable oil to 175°C (350°F) in a deep pan. Drop in spoonfuls of batter and fry for 4 to 5 minutes, until deeply golden and crisp, then drain.

Combine the white sugar and water in a saucepan and bring to a boil.
