Preheat the oven to 160°C (320°F) and line a 20 cm (8-inch) round cake tin.

Warm the dark ale beer in a saucepan over low heat, then add the unsalted butter, brown sugar, and treacle and stir until melted and smooth.

Remove the pan from the heat and let the mixture cool until just warm.

Stir in the raisins, candied orange peel, and orange zest.

Add the eggs and mix well.

Fold in the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and mixed spice until no dry pockets remain.

Pour the batter into the prepared tin and bake at 160°C (320°F) until the cake is set and a skewer inserted in the center comes out clean.
