- 40gUnsalted Butter (cut into small pieces)

Method

Preheat the oven to 190°C (375°F).

Roll the shortcrust pastry to about 3 mm (1/8-inch) thick and line a 23 cm (9-inch) pie plate.

Combine the apple, white sugar, and cinnamon powder and arrange evenly in the pastry base. Dot with the unsalted butter.

Roll the shortcrust pastry to the same thickness, cover the filling, and seal and trim the edges. Cut several small steam vents.

Brush the pastry with the egg.

Bake for 40 to 45 minutes, until the pastry is crisp and golden and the apple is tender.

Cool for at least 20 minutes before serving.
