    Heat the oven to 180°C (350°F) and line a cake pan with parchment.

    Beat the eggs and the white sugar until thick and pale, then fold in the all-purpose flour and vanilla extract.

    Bake until the sponge is lightly golden and springy, then cool it completely and cut it into cubes.

    Heat the water and the white sugar until the sugar dissolves, cool it, then stir in the dark rum.

    Whip the heavy cream with the powdered sugar until softly billowy, then fold in the walnuts.
