    Bring the water to a boil, add the potato, and cook until tender. Drain well and mash until smooth.

    Heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the onion and cook until soft.

    Combine the mashed potato, smoked fish, cooked onion, egg, fresh parsley, salt, and black pepper.

    Shape the mixture into evenly sized cakes and coat them with the breadcrumbs.

    Heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Cook the fish cakes until crisp and golden on both sides and the centers reach 74°C (165°F).
